How this site started

CountingUtils began as a private habit. I kept needing the same small calculations — how many days until a deadline, what a mortgage repayment came to, how much VAT to add to an invoice — and I'd grown tired of wading through cluttered, ad-heavy pages that buried the answer under a wall of text and pop-ups. So I built my own little collection of tools to run offline, each stripped back to a single job: put your numbers in, get a clear answer out, move on.

For a good while it lived only on my own computer. Then a friend saw me using one, asked where it was, and was genuinely surprised it wasn't public — their view was that plenty of people would want exactly this: simple, quick tools that give you the answer concisely and then get out of your way. They talked me into putting it online, and CountingUtils.com is the result.

What it stands for

The aim hasn't changed since it was a folder of files on my laptop: make the clearest, fastest and most accurate everyday calculators I can, and keep them genuinely free to use. Every tool runs entirely in your browser, so your inputs and results stay on your own device and never reach a server. There are 37 of them now — from days-between-dates and mortgage repayments to BMI, unit conversions and a live map of world stock-market hours — and the list grows whenever I find myself wanting something that isn't there yet.
