Where timesheet totals usually go wrong
Adding up hours by hand is deceptively easy to get wrong, because time isn't decimal. Work from 9:00 to 17:20 and it's tempting to read it as 8.2 hours, but it's 8 hours and 20 minutes — about 8.33 in decimal, since twenty minutes is a third of an hour, not two tenths. Payroll systems want that decimal figure, which is exactly where mental arithmetic slips.
Unpaid breaks are the other common trap: a contract that pays for eight hours "on site" may expect an unpaid half-hour lunch inside that, so the paid total is 7.5. This tool keeps the minutes honest and converts them to the decimal hours payroll expects, so the number you hand in matches the number you actually worked.

How do I calculate my total work hours? ▼

Does it handle overnight shifts? ▼
Yes. If your end time is earlier than your start time (e.g. start 22:00, end 06:00), the calculator automatically treats it as an overnight shift and counts the hours correctly across midnight.
What are decimal hours? ▼
Decimal hours express time as a decimal instead of hours and minutes — for example 7 hours 30 minutes = 7.5 decimal hours. Payroll systems usually multiply decimal hours by your hourly rate, which is why we show both formats.
Is my timesheet data saved? ▼
